My 1962 Caribbean Sea Nymph

hi im Greg
This is my 12ft 1962 Caribbean Sea Nymph that I bought in January for $900 as a a project boat. It is my first 'proper' boat as I just turned 16 in December so I could finally get a boat licence and upgrade from my 10ft punt with a British Seagull outboard. The floor and transom were completely rotten so I spent the rest of my summer holidays tearing the old floor and transom out of the boat and replaced it with some new 'composite' stuff so it will never rot again! I am mid way through the restoration with the floor and transom replaced. i took it out for the first time a couple of weeks back, and it was a lot of fun, but I decided to upgrade from the original 1962 Evinrude Fastwin, as it wasn't fast enough. I have put in its place a 1977 Johnson 35hp 'big twin' and I can tell you that she flys! I have plans for having the seats redone, all the shiny bits re-chromed the steering wheel restored and to repaint it. I have contacted Caribbean and they helped me with identifying the boat, apparently they only had one photo of one from an old advert and that the sea nymphs are extremely rare. and i have been unable to find any other picture of one on the internet.

Congratulations Greg. Welcome. It’s great to see the younger set getting involved with our collective obsession
Keep us informed of your progress and a few more pics would be good. Where are you situated?

Sorry I’m a bit slow to reply
It will be interesting to see how the two pack comes up, I have a similar project with a 13 ft ski boat next on my reno list.

Fantastic, Greg. Well done.
There are some lovely old boats out there - I suspect that many of the members of this forum recall these boats from our youth, but it is wonderful to find someone younger who has an appreciation.
Whilst the Board members seem rather fixated on the Savage Javellin, I love the Hayden Hydrodyne and Dorsett Catalina. And I suppose I’m fond of my Hartley...!

After a lot of applying of primer, and sanding. With it being the school holidays this week I been cracking on with spraying the 2 pack white topcoat on the bottom, back and sides. Yesterday morning I did the last of 3 coats and I am very happy with the results. hopefully soon it will be back on the trailer so I can start doing the primer on the top.
Thank you David,
I have always been interested in how things work from a very young age, and I took things apart to see how they worked and then put them together again. Two years ago I finished making a working model petrol engine from scrap, on my Myford metal lathe. My father is absolutely no idea in regards to D.I.Y so I learned everything from surrounding myself with people who know more than me, and take in their advice and learn things that way. I have taught myself a little bit and have also received a lot of help and advice from other members of the local model flying club (yes I also build and fly model planes) and in this case with my boat I have received a lot of advice and tips from the local fibre glass shop/supplier . I am fascinated about all things mechanical, and that was built to last, hence my fondness for British Seagull outboard motors, which I currently own 2 of. I saved up my money to buy this boat by by buying broken outboards on gumtree and selling them, mostly small evinrude/johnson 6hp 'Two smokes'. I have a made/modified a whole range of things, from modifying the circuit of a reel to reel tape recorder into a small guitar amp, to making model aeroplanes.

Hi Greg
I fully concur with David and Andrew .
Your attitude of hands on and advice from experienced people is admirable .Books for reference .
Bring on the school holidays to give you more time (or do you need a break ?)
Thanks for your advice on SX2 with the smoky idling outboards .
All ok-plugs good -new high octane fuel and they fired well .
Have you had a look at her -now that was a project !
Cheers

Hello chaps,
It has been a long time coming.
As of late I'm into the third week of semester 2 of year 11 (I'm getting near the pointy end, only year 12 is left) at school and things are really starting to ramp up as the term goes on
. I am also halfway through writing my application for school captain, which will not be easy to get at such a prestigious school that I am lucky enough to attend. Fortunately I am rather popular figure at my school, as I constantly speak my mind, and I am not afraid to say things that others won't
. Because "if it isn't logical it is stupid".
I have finished painting the boat, and I have had the seats redone. I have also made the steering wheel boss for the steering wheel, on my Myford lathe. I am just waiting to go to dolphin marine to get the gunnel rubber, and some new stainless steel bolts to bolt down the seats, and then it will be finished!
I have also been designing some Jollybodger decals to go on the boat as well. I want it to look super smart, as I have had some girls that have been itching to have a ride
lucky me...
p.s Thank you for the kind words Neil I really appreciate it
Greg

Hi Greg
I don't want to sound patronising but you are a clever lad !
Design and hard work .You should make a good school captain and a shoe-in if you are as good looking as me
And what about the girls -all those Nymphettes -good luck !
