I have a Merc 20hp outboard leg that I've been using for electric motor experiments.
It has a ratchet mechanism in it which is very inconvenient when trying to reverse the motor rather than using the gearbox (the prop freewheels in the opposite direction to the gear that's engaged)

So, I plan to modify the gearbox to  be single directional.
I made up a tool to unscrew the retainer ring behind the prop, but can't see how the shaft and bearings come out (unless they just pull out but are very well stuck in!)

Anyone know if there's a trick to it?

thanks Smiley
