Title: Quintrex Hull ID
Post by: jonmac on March 26, 2017, 08:28:47 PM
Can any members offer a build date for this Quintrex hull. The Quintrex badge states it's a 15th year hull. some where between 1977 and 1980? The hull is on display at Woolianna Tourist Park on the Daly River NT.

Hi Jonmac,
Quintrex Aluminium Products Pty Ltd was founded in 1955 by Terry Quantrill.
That would make that boat about 1965 model and I certainly agree with that.
(I use to boat race with his Son Grahame in the 70's.)

Currently on display at Hunt's Marine showroom at Blakehurst Sydney NSW, is a fully restored 1955 10' Quintrex dinghy with the serial number: 8.
Hunt's have sold over 6000 Quintrex units since 1955.

Thank you for the info. Would you know where to look for a serial number? I've had a man's look over the hull but didn't see anything.

Generally, there is a manufacturers ID plate usually affixed (riveted) near or on the inside of the transom. If no luck, try looking on either side of the rear and middle seats. If still missing, look for evidence of rivets.
If  the ID plate has been removed, it may be reasonably safe to assume the boat may have been borrowed, permanently at some stage of its life.

It's a little like motor vehicle ID plates.... before VIN's were invented.
